Obituary

Linda passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at Avera Medical Hospital in Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Kozora, in 2015. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at the Little Sioux Park in Correctionville, Iowa. There will be a time of sharing follow the lunch.

Linda Kay Kozora was born to Elmer Ehrig and Dorothy (Bannister) Ehrig on January 28, 1948. From an early age, Linda displayed a heart full of compassion and responsibility. After the passing of her mother, Linda stepped into a care giving role, helping raise her younger siblings with an unshakable sense of duty and love. In her younger years, Linda had a deep passion for playing basketball, riding and driving horses, she milked cows, tended chickens, and helped farmed. This led to her adventurous spirit that would shape much of her life. She was always ready for new experiences, and her joyful heart was contagious to those around her.

After high school, Linda worked as a secretary for Helgan & Helgan Law Firm from 1968 to 1970. She then moved to Iowa City, where she worked for Hy-Vee Bakery—a job that would bring her not only work but also lifelong friendship. It was there that she met her dear friend Ramona Maresh, with whom she would share countless adventures, including a memorable Caribbean cruise. It was also this trip that led Linda to meeting Michael Kozora, who would become her husband in 1978.

In 1979, Linda and Mike welcomed their son, James Kozora, and in 1981, they completed their family with the birth of Maxine Kozora. Linda continued to work for Hy-Vee for over 20 years before transitioning into other roles, including working at local restaurants and two meatpacking plants in Cherokee, IA. She later worked for Fareway, Care Initiatives, and Carriage Hills. After losing her husband Mike to a battle with cancer, Linda took a part-time job at Casey’s in Holstein, IA, where she eventually retired.

Linda had an unwavering love for her family, and her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—whom affectionately called her “GG.” She cherished every moment with them, whether attending sporting events, cheering them on loudly, or creating sweet memories through baking and playing cards. Linda was an avid fan of old country music, Elvis, and all types of sports. She loved to dance, golf, and fish, living every moment with an infectious joy for life. She also made it a point to be there for her loved ones, always ready to offer help, love, or a listening ear.

Linda is survived by her son: James (Dawn) Kozora, daughter: Maxine Kozora (Jason Hanson), stepdaughters, Lisa (Steve) Klein, Brenda Speirs, siblings: Beverly (Joe) Feeney, Sally Ehrig, John Ehrig, James Ehrig, Mary (Steve) Waltman, 16 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Dorothy Ehrig, beloved husband, Michael Kozora, in 2015, brothers, Donald and Lyle Ehrig, sister, Tina Mae Ehrig.
