IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lewis F
Matthews, Jr.
September 25, 1941 – February 19, 2022
Lewis F. Matthews, JR of Sioux City, IA passed away on February 19, 2022 at a local hospital, with his wife by his side. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 25, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 612 Jennings St, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Lewis was born September 25, 1941 in Russellville, KY to Lewis Matthews, SR and Katherine Lyons. In 1965, Lewis enlisted in the United States Army and served two tours during the Vietnam War. On March 31, 1989 he married his best friend Tresa (Gulick) Meehl in Elk Point, SD. Over the years Lewis had many jobs but was most proud of his work as a self-employed small engine mechanic. He spent many years helping those all around Siouxland.
Lewis loved fishing and a good cup of coffee. He liked to repair anything he could get his hands on including watches and loved a trip to the casino. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and the American Legion Post 64.
Lewis was loved by many. He had a quick wit and was always looking for a laugh. He was first and foremost a family man that wanted nothing more than to spend time with his kids and wife. He cared deeply about everyone around him and was willing to help at the drop of a hat. He loved sharing stories of his life to anyone that would listen.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Tresa; two sons, Kerry Matthews, Christopher (Nancy) Matthews; daughter, Megan (Matthew) Beck; two brothers, Billy (Janet) Johnson, Lew (Kris) Jurgens; two sisters, Wilma (Kenneth) Thetford, Charlene Pierson; and three grandchildren, Kyree, Korbin, and Arya.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Faye Barrow, Linda Stump, and Judy Jurgens.
In lieu of flowers please direct donations to the family.
