Lewayne Peter "Chris" Christoffel, 68, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held 10:30 am, Monday, February 19, 2018 at Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. A visitation will be held from 4-8 with family present from 6-8 and a vigil service at 7:00 pm, Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa.
Chris was born on February 27, 1949 in LeMars, Iowa to James and Bernadine (Minten) Christoffel. He grew up in the Ashton, Iowa area and graduated from Spalding Catholic High School in 1967. Following high school, Chris attended Sioux City Barber College in 1968 and enlisted into the United States Navy in 1970 and was stationed in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, he barbered in Kingsley, LeMars, and Sioux City.
Chris married Marilyn Homan in 1973 and to this union, five children were born. He continued his education later in life, receiving a bachelors degree from Briar Cliff College and his Masters from the University of Omaha in Social Work. Chris practiced as a therapist for the VA and went on to teach at the college level.
Early in life, Chris enjoyed being outdoors; hunting and fishing. He later got into the hobby of antiquing where he enjoyed going to sales and auctions, and restoring furniture. Chris was always looking for a good bargain.
Survivors include his children, Eric (Sara) of Urbandale, IA, Evan (Ratna) of Sioux City, Adam (Marie Yudka) of Sioux City, and Alisa (Tanner) Towe of Norway, IA; brothers, Gary (Carol), Randy (Denice), both of Granville, IA, and Dean (Lisa) of LeMars, IA; and grandchildren, Morgan, Ryker, Asher, and Everleigh.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Amber.
