Lester C. Powell, age 83, of Sioux City died Sunday July 3, 2011 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday July 8, 2011 from Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Per his wishes Mr. Powell will be cremated following the funeral service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Lester was born in Climbing Hill, Iowa on October 10, 1927, the son of Lloyd and Mabel (Bolte) Powell. He lived his early childhood and attended school in Climbing Hill. Following his graduation, Lester honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Lester worked his entire life as a truck driver. He most recently was employed by Holmes Freight Line. He was always on the go, having coffee with his friends, visiting local nursing home residents and taking them shopping. He enjoyed traveling, vacations and spending time with all of his family.
He will be missed by his family which includes his two daughters; Cindy Smith and her husband Scott of North Sioux City, S.D. and Terri Powell of Sioux City. He is also survived by his step-son Milo McNaughton of Sioux City, his brother Richard Powell of Blue Springs, Mo.; his ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd Powell, and an infant son Lester Cecil Powell Jr.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Lester’s name to the family.
