Lester L. Barger, 79, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at a local hospital. Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 at Waterbury Funeral Service with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lester was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 15, 1934, the son of Lester and Mildred Barger. He went to St. Boniface School, then Trinity, and Heelan High School. Lester joined the Army after graduating and was in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW, the Masonic Temple, Moose Lodge, and the Eagles. Lester also worked for the Shriners with his Uncle Bob Barger. He was always there to help family and friends anytime they were in need. Lester loved to work in his yard, growing flowers and gardening, and he also loved to talk with family and friends on Facebook. Lester married Opal Bos in 1990.

Survivors include his wife Opal, children: Claudette Barger, Beth (Clay) Holis, Theodore “Ted” Barger, and Jennifer Barger Tonkin, brothers Ward (Faith) Barger, Dan Barger, and Mike Barger, sister Patricia Zinn, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, and stepsons Darron, Monty and Travis Bos.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, stepson Merlin Bos, and many other family and friends.
