Leonard R. Hoss, 73, of South Sioux City, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Regency Square Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation with family present will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Leonard was the youngest of ten, born on February 16, 1946 in Le Mars, IA, the son of Frank and Clara (Lewis) Hoss. Growing up, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Leonard graduated from Le Mars-Gehlen Catholic High School and then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. He was in the United States Army Reserves for two years.
Leonard enjoyed helping his family by working on their farms, playing cards and writing poetry. He was given the Golden Poet Award and had his poem, "Alas," published in the National Library of Poetry in 1987.
Survivors include his siblings, Darrell (Karen) Hoss of Sioux City, Kenneth (Waunita) Hoss of Le Mars, and Carol (Sam Risolvato) Kessler of Omaha; and many other extended family members.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Richard Hoss, Donna Wells, Donald Hoss, Helen Bruning, JoAnn Frick, and Patricia Cornelson.
