Leland Elmer
Solberg
Sep 30, 1935 — May 2, 2026
Leland Elmer Solberg, 90, of Lawton, IA, passed away May 2, 2026 at Lawton Senior Living. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 with a visitation 1 hour prior at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. Burial will be at Banner Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Leland Elmer Solberg was born September 30, 1935, in rural Woodbury County to Elmer and Lillian (Dockweiler) Solberg. He attended country school and Lawton school, graduating in 1953. He served in the Army beginning in 1958 and had fond memories of his time spent in Germany.
On December 11, 1964, he and Betty Weston were married at Community Presbyterian Church. He worked many years at Wilson Trailer Company but he loved his farm. He spent hours working and seemed to know every inch of his land. He had a passion for the outdoors, loved catching glimpses of wild life, and spent many happy hours walking and biking along county roads. After he moved to town, the residents of Lawton could often see him walking the streets, usually giving them a wave and a grin. He and Betty did some traveling in later years and they had 44 years together before her death in 2009.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Cindy and her husband Tom Klunker; grandchildren, Tom and his wife Taylor Klunker, and Joshua Klunker; sisters-in-law, Patty and her husband Dan Foster, and Mary and her husband John Malm; brother-in-law Arthur Weston and his wife Kate; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sisters, Leona Solberg and Lois and her husband Delbert McNaughton; sister-in-law Verna and her husband Howard Smith.
