Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Leo Rohloff, 63 of Sioux City, passed away unexpectantly January 1, 2015 at his residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue.

Services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue, with Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be at the Randolph Cemetery; in Randolph, Neb. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Funeral Home.

Larry was born August 7, 1951 at his home in Belden, Nebraska son of Lawrence and Laura (Neubauer) Rohloff. He attended East High and Central High Schools in Sioux City. He was united in marriage to his first love Kathleen Dreckman, on January 24, 1970 and with this marriage came Micheal Rohloff and Melinda (Karges) Rohloff. Larry remarried numerous times and had the privilege of raising his beloved Phillip, Michael, and Jessica. Over the years he had worked at Van Der Vleit Trucking, Hagan Trucking and Saunders Oil, besides operating his own trucks.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting and socializing with friends. Larry chased pheasants at The Loess Hills Hunting Preserve, and also chasing and ruffling feathers elsewhere in his spare time.

Larry’s life revolved around driving truck, and if there was a movie about his life, it would probably be Smokey and the Bandit, along with the theme song, “East Bound and Down”. He was awarded many company awards for his safe driving, skills and as a precision operator. He did have “a long way to go, and a short time to get there”.

Survivors include his children, his grandchildren; his sisters, Romelda “Mim” (Donald) Thompson, Virginia “Nip” (Joe) Otterpohl and Patricia “Pat” (Bob) Grove; nieces, nephews and his friends Denny Bowers, Ronnie Verbeski, Dave Condon and Bob Vakulskas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Laura Rohloff and two sisters, Jolene Larsen and Joyce Mousth; and his friends Leroy Buechler, and Mark Chellew.
