LaVonne M. Cook, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday May 5, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. Visitation will be 10:00 am-11:00 am at the funeral home. The burial will proceed directly after at Graceland Park Cemetery.
LaVonne was born on March 27, 1937, Sioux City, the daughter of Cleo and Ruth (Sardeson) LaFave. She married Robert Cherkas in 1955 in New Jersey. They moved to Long Beach Calif. where they started their family. She devoted her time to raising their children. In 1969, Robert and LaVonne moved to their home town of Sioux City, parting ways in 1979. LaVonne then married Terrance Cook in 1981. They later separated in life.
LaVonne was the most loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated Democratic delegate. She loved watching her sons race, Explorer games, arts and crafts, and was an enthusiastic Coca-Cola collector. She dedicated 19 years of her life working at St. Lukes.
She is survived by four daughters, Rose (Gary) Cooksey of Montpelier, Ohio, Christine Pratt of Sioux City, Laurie (Doug) Larsen of Westmont, IL., and Melissa Cook of Sioux City; two sons, Anthony “Tony” (Amy) Cherkas, and Robert Jr. “Bob” (Kelly) Cherkas, both of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
LaVonne was proceeded in death by her parents, Cleo and Ruth LaFave; two brothers, Roger and Jimmy LaFave.
