Lavon Viola Whitmore, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her residence. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, October 17, 2016 with a short service at 6:00 pm at The Big Snug, 419 Pearl Street, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Lavon was born on July 14, 1940 in Sioux City, the daughter of Lester and Viola (Carlson) Anderson. She grew up in the Albaton, Iowa, area, graduating from Whiting High School in 1958. Lavon married Tom Whitmore in August of 1959, they later divorced.
Lavon worked in retail at a variety of places in Sioux City; Target for over twenty years, Food 4 Less, and lastly at Home Depot. She enjoyed girls weekends with her friends and loved spending time with her family. Lavon was a sweet, kind, and selfless person. She was always full of life and laughter; you could see her spirit in her eyes and smile.
Survivors include her children, Sara Maynard, Traci Loggins, and Susan (Zak) Pahl, all of Sioux City; son by heart, Chris Reyes of South Sioux City; brother, Lyle (Char) Anderson of Sioux City; sister, Lana (Delayne) Folsom of Hornick; niece, Amber Albers of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and numerous close friends.
Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jon Whitmore; son by heart, Robert Reyes; and several furbabies.
