Larry Lee Ullrich

Larry Lee Ullrich, 79, of Sioux City, IA, passed away surrounded by his family on July 12, 2026. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 21 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Larry was born in Battle Creek, IA, to Delbert and Betty (McGonigle) Ullrich on November 16, 1946. He grew up in Sioux City, IA, and graduated from East High School in 1965.

Larry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 and was honorably discharged as a Builder Second Class in 1971. During his service, he was stationed at Great Lakes and served as a Seabee, putting to use the construction skills he learned growing up and that would shape his lifelong career.

Larry married Susan Hansen on September 2,1966, and together they had two daughters, Dawn and Laura. Being a father was one of Larry's greatest joys, and he remained a loving and devoted dad to both Dawn and Laura throughout his life.

Larry was a house builder alongside his father, and together they owned and operated Ullrich and Son. They built numerous homes throughout the Siouxland area. Larry was known for his precise eye for detail, exceptional craftsmanship, and strong work ethic. He spent over forty years in the construction industry, taking pride in every project he completed.

Later in life, Larry developed a passion for gardening. He enjoyed tending to his yard and took great pride in his beautiful flower beds. He was also an avid antique collector for more than twenty years and loved attending auctions, always searching for just the right piece to bring home.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Dawn Grunwald and her husband Jason; Ronnie Woodruff (Laura's partner); his three grandsons, Jarron, Noah, and Max; his sister, Bonnie Ullrich; and several nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura, and her son, Jacob; his parents, Delbert and Betty Ullrich; his siblings, Doyle, Sandy, and Diane; and his faithful dog and companion, Lacey.

Larry will be remembered for his hardworking nature, quiet strength, and the pride he took in everything he did. He found happiness in the simple things—building homes, tending his garden, searching for antiques, spending time with family, and rarely being seen without a Pepsi in his hand. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

If you would like to make a donation in Larry's name he would like it to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
