Larry D. Sills, 68, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 at a care facility in Johnston, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 11am Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Community Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff with Rev. Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Larry was born on September 14, 1946 to parents Francis (Ernie) and Irene (Fisher) Sills and grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota. Larry graduated from Mitchell Senior High School in 1964. He joined the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps and spent much of his enlistment at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was discharged in January of 1969.
Larry was united in marriage to Janice Schuldt on July 6, 1968. Larry was a South Dakota State University graduate in 1972 with a B.S. in Animal Husbandry.
Larry greatest joys were his family, his 34 years in livestock marketing, his music in the church and in Barbershop groups, and watching ISU Cyclone football and basketball. He belonged to the Siouxland Discovery Chorus in Sioux City, IA. Larry also joined with three others to form a barbershop quarter called “Assorted Parts” who sang in various events.
Survivors include wife Janice, three children Curtis D. Sills and wife Jill, Des Moines, IA, Bobbi A. Weepie and husband Travis, Walker, IA, Cory D. Sills and wife Allison, Plymouth, MN, grandchildren; Baileigh, Arianna, Ethan, Madilyn, Travis, Devin, Andrew, Brennah, Grant, Preston, Ella, and Marshall; her brother David L. Sills and his wife Marian of Cedar City, Utah; his sister Brenda J. Weil and her husband Randy of Fremont, NE.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Karan Hart, and sister Antoinette (Toni) Heiman.
