Obituary

Larry Gene Schlines Sr., 80, of Sioux City, IA. passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday March 16, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday March 21, 2024, at Morningside Assemble of God. Visitation will be at 10:00am prior to service at 11:00am. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Larry was born on November 26, 1943, in Ponca, NE, to Albert and Amber (Ellis) Schlines. He graduated from Allan High School and attended Wayne State University. Larry was a skilled athlete and especially loved football and track and field. He was united in marriage to Carla O’Donnell on May 6th, 1967, in Sioux City, IA, and they were blessed with 56 years of marriage. Larry loved to sing and play both acoustic and electric guitar. He was lead vocalist and guitar player for both The Chessman in college, and The Dodge Boys during the early years of his marriage. He was also a talented songwriter and produced an album and a c/d with original songs.

Larry had a long career with Mid-American as a mechanic. Some of the things he enjoyed as hobbies through the years were boating and fishing on the river with his family, caring for animals on his acreage, and doing landscaping in his yard. He had a great sense of humor and loved having fun and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren.

Larry loved the Lord more than anything. He was a member of Morningside Assembly of God and earned his pastoral license through the church. He had a heart to lead others to Jesus and was involved in many ministries including bible studies, prison ministry, and musical ministry.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carla Schlines; children: Todd (Lora) Schlines, Larry (Danielle) Schlines Jr., Amber (Jason) Black; daughter-in-law Kimberly Schlines; grandchildren: Colton, Chloe, Caysie, Aubrey, Victoria, Deacon, and Adelynn; and a brother, Denny (Candi) Schlines.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and a son, Troy Schlines.
