Larry L. Larson, 71, of Sioux City, IA, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2026, at a local hospital. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13 at Mater Dei Parish-Nativity Church. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family asks to please wear Iowa State attire or red and gold to the visitation in honor of Larry’s love for the Cyclones.
Larry was born on May 20, 1954, in Sioux City, IA to William “Arlie” and Lucille (Uhl) Larson. He grew up in Smithland, IA and graduated from Westwood High School in 1972. Growing up on the family farm, his father taught him the value of hard work and his mother’s value of faith. These values remained with him through the end. He met the love of his life, Dawn Dvorak, working at Payless Cashways. He courted her for quite a while and he finally convinced her to marry him on February 14, 1980. Throughout their 46 years of marriage, they raised three strong and independent daughters. Larry became the ultimate girl dad, spending his free time coaching softball games, watching dance shows and show choir competitions, and attending sporting events simply to watch his daughters cheer. Larry never missed their games. Outside his family, Larry dedicated his life’s work to lumber sales from his first job after high school at Payless Cashways to his most recent at Stan Houston. He has passed on the value of hard work to his grandsons by mowing and shoveling for elderly neighbors and friends together.
He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, strong in his faith, and always smiling at church. He was a member of the Nativity Men’s Club (where he was responsible for baking the world renown baked fish), a third-degree knight with Knights of Columbus, and a team member on multiple bowling leagues around town. He was also a proud supporter of blood donations to LifeServe Blood Center. He was selfless and always helping others in need regardless of the time or the day. Larry touched a lot of lives and always found someone he knew wherever he went. It was a running family joke that he could go anywhere in North America and run into a friend. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He would often be seen traveling throughout the Midwest watching their games. It was common knowledge that their baseball and softball games were his favorite. Larry will be missed by his many friends and family.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dawn Larson; children: Lyndsey (David) Guggenmos, Patricia (Tony) Neumann, and Chantae (Brian) Corey; grandchildren: Brayden and Cameron Neumann, Adelaide and Otto Guggenmos, Brianna and future baby girl Corey; six brothers and sisters: Sheila (Don) Van Auken, Bill Larson, Dave (Lisa) Larson, Kim (Larry) Shafer, Dawn (Todd) Copple, and Leann Larson; father-in-law, Dennis Dvorak, sister-in-law, Denise (Tom) Calvert; brother-in-law, David (Dawn) Dvorak; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Lucille Larson; mothers-in-law: Pat Dvorak and Donna Dvorak; and sister-in-law, Debra Bradham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a donation in Larry’s name.
