Larry D. Hummel, age 74, of Sioux City passed away suddenly on Saturday November 16, 2013 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday November 20, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City with interment following in Floyd Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 pm with the family present 6-8 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Larry was born in Coleridge, Nebraska on February 1, 1939, the son of Blaine and Iva “Walton” Hummel. He came to Sioux City at an early age, attending Sioux City Community Schools and graduating from East High School with the class of 1958. He then attended Western Iowa Tech where he received his Associates Degree.
He was united in marriage with Shirley Kent on November 19, 1960, the couple later divorced.
Larry then entered the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during his tour of duty.
Larry worked for several years at Concrete Pipe Company, he then began selling MAC tools, and later was the owner of Hummel Auto Parts. He also worked as an auto body repairman for several years. Recently Larry had been an instructor in Truck Driving at Western Iowa Tech.
He was a classic car collector and was a member of several car clubs. Larry enjoyed attending car shows, fishing, camping, gardening, and mushroom hunting. He attended Grace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter Echo Still and her husband Larry of Bronson, Iowa, his brother Gordon “Curly” Hummel of Sioux City, two sisters: Bonnie Pyzel and her husband Everett and Lois Crawford both of Sioux City, and his three grandchildren: Brianna, Kyle, and Jerett.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Keith and Duane “Doc”
