Obituary

Larry R. Davis, 75, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his at his residence, following a long battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Pastor Timothy Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. A visitation will be held from 5-8 with a military service by the U.S. Navy at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Larry was born in Keokuk, Iowa on October 10, 1940, the son of Gordon and Luella (Speaks) Davis.
Larry joined the U.S Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He served on the USS Bennington aircraft carrier. After the Navy, he owned and operated two cafes. He met and married Karen Woeppel on January 30, 1965 in Norfolk, Nebraska. The family moved many times while Larry worked in construction. Locally, he worked for J. Myron Olson Wrecking Company. He also worked on building a hydroelectric dam in Virginia and as a pipe fitter/welder for ADM in Clinton, Iowa.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and rock collector. He loved hunting, fishing and taking his boat out on both the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. At one time, he and a friend did commercial fishing on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Karen; Son, Daniel and his fiancée Kate Corley of Sergeant Bluff; two grandchildren, Ashley and Jared of Sergeant Bluff; brothers, Dick (Kate) of Wisconsin, Ronald (Cyndy) of California, Kenny (Penny) Boggess of Homer, NE, and Fred Dunn of Missouri; sisters, Mary (Stan) Lund and Betty Scott, both of Washington, and Julie (Ron) Stusse of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, and loving sisters and brothers-in-laws.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Davis; and infant son.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made in Larry's name to the Hospice of Siouxland or to the Siouxland Humane Society.
