Larry was born in Sioux City, Iowa on October 24, 1942, the son of Harold G. and Vivian C. (DeWald) Bryce. He grew up in the Riverside area and attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1960. He attended NBT College receiving his degree in accounting.

Larry married the love of his life, DeEtte M. Johnson on April 1, 1969 in Sioux City. They made Sioux City their home where Larry worked at Zenith Corporation and Knapp & Spencer. He was employed at the Sioux City Journal, retiring after seventeen years in December of 2004 due to his health.

Larry was a voracious reader of a variety of books, with the Bible being one of his favorites in his later years. He was an avid sports fan enjoying the games he watched and listened to, more than who won or lost. In earlier times he bowled weekly and played golf when he was able. What he cherished most, however, was spending time with his family, especially with the younger generations. This was because Larry was the practical joker of the family and the children especially loved being the recipient of his jokes. It was his way of showing so much love, not only to them but to other family members and friends. He was a member Central Assembly of God Church and a member of the Teamsters Local when he was employed.

He will be greatly missed by his family: his loving wife, DeEtte; son, Doug (Julie) of Decorah, Iowa; daughter, Sue Nathlich (fiance Dave Saul) of Sioux City; grandchildren Abigail and Isaac Nathlich and Kaulin, Evan, and EmilyGrace Bryce. Larry is also survived by his brothers Bill (Sue) of Sioux City, Richard (Denise) of Sergeant Bluff, sister Sandi Hicks of Juneau, Alaska and half-sister Shirlee Drummond-Hay of Canada; several nieces and nephews, as well as several special people who claimed him as their second dad or brother.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and half-brother Robert “Bobby” Bryce.
