Obituary

Kent Alan Rasmussen, 79, of Homer, NE, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer, NE with the family present one hour prior. Burial will be at Green Valley Cemetery in Homer.

Kent was born to Donald Wade and Margaret Louise (Gotch) Rasmussen on September 18, 1945. Three generations shared the September 18th birthday, Kent's uncle John Gotch and nephew Randy Peterson. Kent was raised on a farm in Homer and graduated from Homer High School in 1963. Kent graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Engineering in 1968 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Kent's career took him to Southern California where he resided until retirement. Kent's first engineering job was with the DC10 Aircraft Hydraulic/Landing Gear Group within the McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co in Long Beach, CA. He worked on the B1 Bomber Landing Gear Group with Rockwell International in El Segundo, CA prior to moving to Northrup Grumman Space Technology & TRW where he remained for over 27 years.

He was a leader in many areas of mechanical/opt-mechanical design and mechanical systems. In 2000, Kent was nominated for the TRW Chairman's Award for Innovation within the Space & Electronics Group. Following retirement in 2004, Kent moved back to Homer, NE where he began to build a new home, which he designed & built. In the summer of 2007, he began to plant a vineyard at his home and enjoyed dabbling in wine making.

Kent served as the President of the Homer Alumni Association and was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Homer. In 2006, Kent reunited with Homer High School classmate Rosie (Brodersen) Nipp at an all-school class reunion. Kent & Rosie's friendship rekindled, and they were united in marriage on August 18, 2012. During their time together, Kent & Rosie enjoyed traveling to his vacation home in AZ and throughout the country, caring for the vineyard and visiting family. Their love brought into Kent's life two stepdaughters & sons-in-law, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Rosie passed away January 8, 2019.

Kent is survived by his sister Rita (Chuck) Peterson and sisters-in-law Eileen (Russell) Rasmussen & Della (David) Rasmussen; step-children Kristi (Lauren) Knous and Kelli (Aaron) Bloom; grandchildren Abbey (Michael Christopherson) Knous, Jonah Knous, Alison Bloom & Emily Bloom; three great-grandchildren Aiden Knous Ngugi, Lucas & Logan Christopherson, and a new great-granddaughter due in October; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kent is preceded in death by his wife, Rosie, his parents and brothers Russell and David.
