Kenneth W. Mercer, 73 of Sergeant Bluff, died Friday, August 21, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, August 25th at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be Monday 4-8 pm at the funeral home, with the family present 6-8 pm.
Kenneth Wayne Mercer was born on August 2, 1942 in Sioux City, the son of Edward and Lucille (Hogeboom) Mercer. He graduated from the Sergeant Bluff High School in 1962. He was married to Vera Townsley. They later were divorced. Kenny farmed for 14 years near Sergeant Bluff until 1972, when he started working for the Sioux City Brick and Tile Company at its Sergeant Bluff plant. He retired in 2004.
Kenny was united in marriage to Lenice Nicolls on July 7, 1978 in Elk Point, SD. Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking out on the grill. Kenny was a member of the Sergeant Bluff Volunteer Fire Department from 1979 to 2001.
Kenny is survived by his wife Lenice, 2 sons, Alfred Mercer of Sioux City and Nick Mercer and his wife Angie of Bellevue, NE; 3 grandchildren, Saige, Hunter and Aliana; 1 sister, Connie and her husband Butch Tilton of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and his 2 granddogs, Major and Jazz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Harley and Larry Mercer.
