Karen J. Fickett, 67 of Sioux City, died Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, Iowa. A private Celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date.

Karen Joy Fickett was born on October 6, 1955, in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Gerard and Rusty (Kern) Fickett. Karen graduated from the Central High School in Sioux City. Later she graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College with a degree in nursing.

Karen had worked at Sunrise Retirement Home, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and also at Casa de Paz. Over the years she had lived in Texas, Arizona, and Florida before moving back to Sioux City in 2000. Karen enjoyed doing her crocheting.

Karen is survived by her life partner, Gary Durston, her sons Lawrence Johnson, Andre (Bonnie) Gagnon, Brad Thompson, Beanz Dallen and Robert Dallen, her stepdaughter Christine Dallen, 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; her brothers Tom (Darice) Fickett, Jerry Fickett and Kip (Kathy) Fickett, her sisters Vicky (Bob) Delaughter, Krystal Snodgrass and Karla Fickett.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bruno and Margaret Kern, parents, 2 brothers, Ralph Fickett and Robert Fickett, and niece Sherri Fickett
