Karen Alice Burns, age 73, of Sioux City passed away Sunday February 17, 2013 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday February 20, 2013 at Trimble United Methodist Church with Pastors Martha Anderson and Merrill Muller officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8pm at the church. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Karen was born in Sioux City on January 19, 1940, the daughter of Charles A.and Ella A (Johnson) Dietschy. She attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1959. Karen was united in marriage with Robert Burns on August 15, 1959 in Sioux City. Robert passed away on October 6, 2001 in Sioux City.
She worked at Gerkins , worked as a substitute for the Sioux City Schools in food service and then began serving as custodian at Riverside United Methodist Church, a position she held for 15 years before retiring.
Karen enjoyed her flowers in her yard, watching Birds, especially looking for Cardinals, and singing silly songs to her grandchildren. She always enjoyed being with children, and cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her sons: Aren Burns and his wife Melissa of Sioux City, and Adam Burns and his wife Tasha of Wabasha, Minnesota, her daughters Denise Robinson and her husband Calvin, and Marlo Hodges and her husband Barry all of Sioux City. She is also survived by three sisters: Charlotte Card of Sergeant Bluff, Arlene Green of North Sioux City, South Dakota, and Julie Miller of Sioux City, along with her 13 grandchildren and her 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, a grandchild Brenden Burns, and a brother Alfred.
