Karen A. Brunssen, 72, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at her residence. Services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, September 30, 2013 at Whitfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Kristine A. Frank officiating. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 29 from 5-8 with family present from 6-8pm. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Karen was born on March 24, 1941, in Pender, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Englebright) Clift. She attended Pender Public Schools. Karen married DeWayne Brunssen on March 2, 1963. He passed away on July 10, 2009.
Karen loved spending her time watching her two sons race, loved to watch NASCAR, and play bingo. Her biggest joy was time spent with her family and friends, especially her special friend, Dorie K. She also enjoyed going to the casinos with her sister, Jean.
Survivors include her children: Craig (Alieca) Clift of Sioux City, Cindy Clift of Sioux City, Brad Brunssen of Moville, IA, Doug (Cally) Brunssen of Westfield, IA, and Jeff (Sonya) Brunssen of LeMars, IA, 11grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, siblings: Edward (Judy) Clift of Council Bluffs, IA, Phyllis Jean (Virgil) Kleve of Hubbard, NE, Myrna (Phil) Anderson of Sioux City, and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband DeWayne, her parents, sister Sarah Hanson, and special friend Bonnie Fleshner
