Judith A. Fylstra, 71 of Sioux City, died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer
Services will be held 10 am Friday, October 11, 2013 at Trimble United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday, 5-8 pm, with the family present 6-8 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Judy was born on July 30, 1942 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ann Nielsen. She graduated from Hinton High school in 1960. On September 5, 1964 she was united in marriage to Donald Fylstra in Merrill, Iowa.
While her children were young, Judy was a homemaker. She later managed an area Dairy Queen; and after that, she was the office manager at Chicoine/Raskin Chiropractic until retiring in 1999. She enjoyed many years of music, dancing, camping & crocheting and of course a little bit of time at the casino, but most of all her greatest enjoyment was being with her family and friends. Especially the special time spent with her grandchildren. They were her world.
Judy is survived by her husband Donald Fylstra; her daughter, Penny Fox and husband Mike Fox of Sioux City; her son Jeff Fylstra of Salix; 6 grandchildren, Cody Fannon, Paige Fannon, Natalie Fylstra, Nathan Fylstra, Christopher Fox and Patrick Fox; 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Nielsen of Rapid City, South Dakota and Steve Nielsen and his wife Thelma of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and one sister, Lorraine Lake and her husband Stan Lake of Sebring, Florida.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dale “Odie” Nielsen; and her daughter in law, Lisa Fylstra.
