Joyce Marie DeMarest, 93, of Sioux City, IA, passed away surrounded by her family on January 6, 2025.  A private service was held and burial was at Calvary Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Joyce was born on January 5, 1932 in Sutherland, IA to Jerome and Gertrude (Gengler) McDevitt.  She graduated from East High School in 1949 and went on to attend Edwards Business School and Western Iowa Tech.  Joyce was united in marriage to Harry DeMarest on January 30, 1949 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA.  Together they enjoyed taking their pontoon boat out to go fishing and camping.  She worked as the office manager for Holy Spirit Retirement Home for 18 years and was also on their board of directors as the secretary/treasurer. Prior to Holy Spirit, Joyce worked at North American Manufacturing for 15 years.

Joyce was a loving mother to her two children, a hard worker and a meticulous housekeeper.  She enjoyed her periodic trips to Las Vegas to watch shows and trying her luck at the slot machines.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Harry DeMarest; children: Dan (Melinda) DeMarest and Diane (Steven) Huser; 4 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Jerome & Gertrude McDevitt,  granddaughter, Katie Huser; and siblings: Mary McDevitt, Mabel Hardesty, Geneva Coonrod, Monica Wert, Gertrude Mashock, Joseph McDevitt, Don McDevitt, Patricia Anne Smith, and Beverly Prigley.
