Joseph “Joe” Michael Grossnickle, 79, of Sioux City, IA, passed away September 20, 2024, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 25 at 10:30A.M., with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service at First United Methodist Church, 1915 Nebraska Street. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
   Joe was born on February 4, 1945, in Cincinnati, OH to George and Ruth (Bohl) Grossnickle. He graduated from high school in Milford, OH and then enlisted in the Navy. He served for twenty years as a Medic and was in Vietnam with the Marines for a period of time. He later received
   
   his nursing degree from St. Luke School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital for many years. He was united in marriage to Janet Boller on January 24, 1987, in Sioux City. Joe was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening,
   
   animals, nature, traveling, history, reading, doing cross word and jig saw puzzles.
  
   
   Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Janet Grossnickle; children: Kelly, Bonita (Bonnie), Thomas, Brenda, and Johnny (Aubrie); several grandchildren and special granddaughter, Madi.
  
   
   Joe is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret (Peggy) Harmon.
  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, the Gospel Mission, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
