Joseph “Howard” Schulte Jr., 92, of Sioux City, IA, passed away August 30, 2026. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Howard was born on October 21, 1933 in Sioux City, IA to Joseph and June (Embry) Schulte Sr. He graduated from Heelan High School and jointed the United States Army. He was a staff Sergeant with the 245th Infantry Division. He was transferred from Korea to Hawaii at the end of the Korean War. While there, he met a beautiful girl, a native of Hawaii, who was the Pineapple Queen that year named Laorencia Florence Canencia. They were married and a baby girl, Sheryl, was born in Hawaii. This was before Hawaii was a State.

They moved to the States and were stationed in Colorado, then Davenport and finally Sioux City, Iowa. They had their first son Bruce, who came seven years after Sheryl, a year later, then came Kirk. They had their next girl on January 1 that was Laorene “Bambi”. Linda was born in 1969. Daughter Sheryl gave them two grandchildren, George and Tara. Kirk has one son, Corey. Linda has two children Aries and Mathew.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Sheryl Eisele, Bruce Schulte, Kirk Schulte, Laorene Schulte and Linda Schulte.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Florence.
