Joseph W. “Bill” Young, 74, of North Sioux City, went to his eternal home following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his residence. Services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, May 22 at Waterbury Funeral Service. A visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. with family present from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Bill was born February 20, 1939 in Granger, Indiana, the son of William Maurice and Beatrice Maude (Ritchie) Young. He joined the United States Air Force in 1956, which brought him to Sioux City where he met Karen. Bill married Karen Ann Britton on August 15, 1958 in Sioux City. He later served in the Iowa National Air Guard 185th.
Bill started his trucking career with Sioux Transportation and later became an owner/operator, retiring in 2002. During retirement, Bill drove school bus for Dakota Valley Elementary School in North Sioux City. Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, watching softball, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Karen, son Randy Young of Sioux City, daughters Rhonda Young of Sioux City, Joann (Jeff) DeGroot of Sioux City, and Donna Houck of North Sioux City, sisters Delores (Reggie) Egert of Mishawka, Indiana, and Mary Jean (George) Avery of Pulaski, Tennessee, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one grandson.
