Joseph J. Beck, 82 of Allen, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his residence in Allen.

Services will be held 11 am Monday, November 15, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Allen, with Rev. Sarah Ruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will start at 10 am Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Joe was born on June 15, 1928 in Sioux City, the son of Joseph and Mary (Hoy) Beck. He graduated from Trinity High School. Joe was married to Beverly Petersen and six children were born to this union. They later divorced. On June 5, 1982 Joe was married to Glenda Peterson in Allen.

Joe was a cattle buyer at the stockyards until 1973, when he started working for IBP and became a quality control inspector, retiring in 1993.

Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved woodworking and was a handy carpenter, always willing to help with building projects.

Joe is survived by his wife Glenda; his children Greg (Julie) Beck, Tom (Cheryl) Beck, Pat (Jane) Beck, Teresa Charlson, Larry Beck and Mark (Lori) Beck; his step-children, Doug Peterson, Shirley (Roger) Mahoney, Danny Peterson, Sharon (Bob) Zimmerman and Janet (Kevin) Jackson; 15 grandchildren and 27 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Beck and 2 grandchildren.
