John S. Zybura, 70 of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at a local care facility after a lengthy illness.
Burial with military graveside services will be held at a later date in Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville New Jersey. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.
John Stephen Zybura was born May 8, 1945 in Wilkes-Barre, PA., the son of John and Helen (Kosch) Zybura.
John enlisted in the Navy September 15, 1964 and served until May 13, 1969. He served in the Vietnam War and served on the Naval destroyer USS Stickell (DD 888) as the store keeper in the supply division. On July 20, 1968 John married Lois Laura Nigro in St. Leo’s Church, Irvington, NJ. He was a member of the Catholic faith. After their marriage they resided in New Jersey before moving to Sioux City in 1990.
He enjoyed watching movies (John Wayne and Clint Eastwood), listening to classic country music (Johnny Cash), and was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan. He was very proud of his service in the military and enjoyed sharing stories about all the countries he visited. John had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
He is survived by his daughter; Kristina (Daniel) Murphy of Sioux City, a sister Maryann (Roman) Melenka of Jackson, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Lois, who passed away on March 5, 1993.
