John Jay Yates of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the age of 71, following a long battle with cancer.  He passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family. There will be no funeral services or visitation held at this time.

John was born on December 18, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa to Fred and Mildred Yates.  For most of his life he enjoyed being outside as much as possible, including fishing and hunting.  He also loved working with his hands while doing woodworking and construction.

In his later life, he met the love of his life, Judy, and the two were married in 2005.  They lived a happy life together for over 18 years.  One of their favorite things to do together was to spend time with their grandchildren.  Being a loving and kind father and grandfather was very important to John, and there is no doubt that he wholeheartedly loved his family.

In addition to his wife, Judy, and his three children Tiffany Danhof, John (Shana)Yates, and Sam (Jenny)Yates, John is also survived by his siblings, Fred (Janice) Yates, Gary (Mary) Yates, and Jackie (Chuck) Hinrichsen and his grandchildren, Tristen and Tanner Danhof, Max Yates, and Sophia Yates.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Fred (Mildred) Yates and his brother Art Yates.
