John L. Sturges, 85, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Friday, October 2, 2020 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors provided  by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 662. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm with family present from 5-7pm Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the funeral home.

John Leland Sturges was born April 27, 1935 in Sioux City, IA the son of Stephen and Daisy (Stockwell) Sturges. John joined the United States Navy during the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. He married Daphene Coleman on September 16, 1956 in Sioux City, IA, where they made their home with their 5 children. He worked for Klinger Construction for 40 years and later for L and L Builders, retiring in 1997. John continued to do Masonry Jobs for the next eight years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and having coffee with his brothers and neighbors.  John was a member of Cement  Mason Unions Local 21. He also was a member of the American Legion 662 in Sergeant Bluff, IA.

John is survived by his wife, Daphene of Sioux City, IA, four daughters, Clarice, Kimberly both of Sioux City, Terri of Merril, IA, Cindy of Sioux City, one sister, Valerie Hatzenbuhler, eight grandchildren, Bryan, Dustin, Brandon, Stephen, Randi , Kyle, Blake and Kendal, 10 great grandchildren with 1 on the way and 1 great great grandchild with 2 on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, including his twin brother, Jerry, one son, Randall, son-in-law, Randy Erickson, and a grandson, Joshua.
