John Matthew Schonrock IV, 46 of Correctionville, Iowa formerly of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Waterbury Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

John “Matthew, Mattie” Schonrock , was born October 13, 1975 in Sioux City, IA, to John and Cathie (Doenhoeffer) Schonrock. He was raised in Sioux City, Iowa with his four siblings. Matt attended West High School and graduated from Clarinda Academy.

He was a jack of all trades; Matt worked at a local Manufacturing Plant here in Sioux City. His career was cut short due to a life long illness, but he always had a positive attitude.

Matt started his family at a young age. His family was everything to him. After the kids were grown he found the love of his life, Vanessa Pedersen, and the mother of his adopted son, Daniel. John enjoyed spending time with his wife Vanessa as well as his children and his grandchildren. He was always helping to create memories. Watching his boys play sports; football, rugby, and softball were his happiest moments. He coached many of his son’s softball games. He is the strongest person we know.

He was the guy that could make everyone laugh. When he gave you his attention, you felt like you were the only one in the room. He was the guy that would give you unbridled truths without judgment or prejudice, and with loving intentions with an honest heart. Although Matt’s heart had a defect, it was truly golden. He fought courageously for 46 years with strength and determination for life. We were blessed to have known him as the heavens now have received him.

John is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cathie (Al) Schonrock- Caskey; wife, Vanessa Pedersen-Schonrock; five children; Mequilla Schonrock, John “Dalton” (Samantha) Schonrock , Cheyenne Schonrock, Hunter (Jade) Schonrock, and Daniel Pedersen-Schonrock;  three brothers, Bernie (Lexi), Dakota (Aleah) and Brian (Theresa); sister, Tonya (Pablo); four granddaughters, two grandsons, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Carl Schonrock III and his sister, Jennifer Lynn Caskey, paternal grandparents, Delores and John Schonrock, maternal grandparents, Evelyn and John Doenhoeffer, four uncles, and one aunt.
