John D. Merrill, 88 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at a local hospital, with his family by his side. No services are being held at this time.

John D. Merrill, 88 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at a local hospital, with his family by his side. No services will be held at this time.

John was born October 25, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of William and Eldora (Moon) Merrill. He attended school in McCook Lake. On June 28, 1957 John entered the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on May 21, 1962. He married Shirley Webster February 16, 1962 and in this union they had four children. John worked at Mid-American from the late 1970’s until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed woodworking, lawn work, and reading western novels.

John is survived by his wife, Shirley, three sons, Brent (Melissa), Tom (Misti), Robert (Melissa), daughter, Amy Merrill all of Sioux City, IA, one sister, Sandy (Roy) Albeck of Holiday Village, AR., sister-in-law, Deloris Merrill of North Sioux City, SD., ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Merrill, Donald Merrill, and two sisters, Violet Steeg, and Marie Raley.
