John Malm

John Malm, 78, of Lawton, IA, passed away July 26, 2026 at a local hospital. A memorial service with military honors will be held Friday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, IA. Burial will be at a later date at Banner Township in Lawton, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

John was born September 14, 1947 in Barrit, Denmark to Peter and Ruth (Jakobsen) Malm. He and his parents immigrated to the United States in 1950. John was joined by brothers Benny in 1952 and Paul in 1960. John was granted US citizenship in 1956. He attended Lawton-Bronson High School and graduated in 1965. He joined the US Army and served as a combat platoon leader in Vietnam. Upon his return home he married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary E. Weston in June of 1968. The happy union produced four children: Drake, Scott, Kevin, and Corey. John was employed for 39 years at Prince Manufacturing Co in Sioux City until he retired in 2009. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and loved them very much. He experienced special joy playing with his grandchildren.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Mary Malm; children: Drake (Stephanie), Scott (Julie), Kevin, Corey (Kristina); grandchildren: Logan, Tucker, Sara, Dylan, Carter, Logan, Seth, Lily, Hope and Ashley (Jacob); and great-grandchildren: Rowan and Baird.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Julie; great-granddaughter, Elvie.
