John Thomas Baker, 73, of Hornick, IA passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at a local care facility.  A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held 11am Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. A Visitation will be held one hour prior.

John was born in Sioux City, Iowa on March 3, 1949, the son of John and Bernice (Heisler) Baker Sr.

John attended East High School in Sioux City and graduating in 1967.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was active duty from October 1969 through October 1970. He served a tour in Vietnam. John was discharged as a CPL E-4 and was very proud to be called a Marine.

John married Marcia (Heyl) on June 11, 1998. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing and their grandkids. They became foster parents, with many children passing though their home.

John was a heavy equipment operator and also worked road construction for many years. John had a passion for mechanic work and loved to tinker on many projects. Motorcycles and stock cars were two of is favorites.

Left to cherish John's memory is his wife, Marcia; daughters Gillian (Felipe) of Sioux City, Melissa (Matthew) of Fort Worth, Texas,  Belinda (Mario) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Becky of Sioux City; sons, John of Phoenix, Arizona, Tom (Brittiny) of Blencoe, Iowa, Tony, of Blair, Nebraska , Steven of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Alex and Andrew of Hornick, Iowa;  step-daughter Katie (Scott) of Sioux City and step-son Jason of Sioux City; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Marilyn and Janette and one grandson, John IV.
