IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John W.
Isom
November 4, 1955 – April 27, 2022
John W. Isom, 66 of Odebolt, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at a local hospital, with his family by his side. No services will be held at this time.
John was born in Sioux City to Faye and Nyeulah Isom on November 4, 1955. Following his graduation from West High School in Sioux City, John studied at Oregon State University, Saint Paul Bible College, and Western Iowa Community College, where he was educated in piano tuning and truck driving. In 1988 John befriended a young woman named Michelle Malcom when they were both employed as nurse’s aides. It soon became apparent that their mutual interest transcended their occupations as nurse’s aides. Their affection for each other blossomed and led to their marriage on June 26, 1999, in Odebolt, Iowa. John and Michelle are the parents of three daughters: Crystal Malcom and Jackie Wheeler of Sioux City and Colleen Malcom of Omaha, Nebraska.
John Isom was a man with an impressive variety of interests and talents. He sang in a barbershop quartet in high school and loved to play the piano. Quite often he would share his musical talent by playing piano for the residents of the local nursing home. He loved to play golf and participated with his brother-in-law, Russ, in some tournaments sponsored his employer, the trucking firm of Schuster Company. John also enjoyed constructing models and playing the card games of poker and golf on his tablet. He was fortunate to find a profession that allowed him to do what he so loved, driving the highways of our great country. When John was not on the road and had the luxury of engaging in spectator sports, his heart belonged to the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes. But, most of all, his heart belonged to his home and his family. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Those surviving John and cherishing his memory are his wife, Michelle; his daughter, Crystal Malcom and her daughter, Madelyn Nail of Sioux City; his daughter, Jackie Wheeler and her children, Logan, Lathan, and Lillian of Sioux city; his daughter, Colleen Malcom of Omaha; and John’s siblings, David (Jodi) Isom of Appleton, Wisconsin, and their children; Amanda (Jahar) Schultz and Kaylee Isom; Beth (Brad) Armstrong and their children, Bryce (Bekah) Armstrong, their children; Layla, Pierce, and Maverick, and Brittany (Andrew) McKinley of Sioux City.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Nyeulah Isom.
