John Heitman, 70, of South Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
A private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff. Online condolences can be sent to www.waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com.
John William Heitman was born April 17, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Don and Ella (Martsfeld) Heitman. He graduated from Central High School in 1966.
He served in the U. S. Air Force for four years. Three of those years were in Bitburg, Germany. While there, he purchased a new 1967 Mini Cooper. He and his service buddies put many miles on the car traveling throughout Europe.
On October 6, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kathy Burcham of Waterbury, Nebraska. They met on a blind date.
He retired from Tyson (formerly IBP) in 2007. He was the Regional Equipment Manager for PBX.
John will be remembered as a man with a lot of friends, a big heart and always helping and doing for others. He was able to fix most everything. Unfortunately, there was no fix for his recent health issue of cancer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Heitman; sister, Judy (Rich) Enockson; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many very dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and parents-in-law, Earl and Margaret Burcham.
A special thanks to friend, Jan Hewitt, for being with John and Kathy every step of the way on this seven-month journey. Jan is our hero!
Miss Me
But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me but let me go!
