Obituary

Bryan Hamann, 75 of Sioux City, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at his residence. Services will be held 10:30am Friday, December 23, 2022, at Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army.  Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

John Bryan Hamann was born on March 27, 1947, in Sioux City, the son of John and Laverna (Butcher) Hamann. He graduated in 1965 from the Anthon-Oto High School, joined the military and completed business school.

Bryan joined the Iowa Army Guard in 1966 where he served his country for 22 years before retiring. On August 10, 1968, Bryan married Patricia Ann Carlsen. Together they had three wonderful sons, and later seven grandchildren. They raised their family in Sergeant Bluff from 1971-1997. After 32 years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2001. After retiring from the Army, Bryan sold financial services for Aid Association for Lutherans, retiring in the mid 1990’s.  Over the years he acquired rental properties and managed them fulltime until his death. Bryan owned antique stores and dabbled in US Coins, which was one of his passions. In 2007, Bryan met Martha Lanyon.  He married her, the love of his life, on a beautiful beach in Hawaii on May 22, 2011. With that marriage, Bryan gained three more children, and seven more grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also enjoyed traveling with Martha and could never pass up stopping at a garage sale or estate sale.

There was nothing Bryan loved more than sharing his knowledge of everything with his friends and family. He would often walk up to you with his hands behinds his back. He would have a "surprise" and share the history of his surprise.  The smile he had during these times was worth a million.

Bryan is survived by his wife Martha, two sons Chad Hamann and Wade Hamann (Katie Adams), three stepchildren: Marsha (Brian) Hegbahl,  Amy Coleman and Michael Cochran,  grandchildren: Katie Dawson, Jacob Hamann (Sami Allen), Carsen Hamann, Abby Hamann, Caleb Hamann, Jayde Hamann, Nathaniel Hamann, Kristina (Youssef) BenSaida, Megan (Codey) Walker, Colby (Rylee) Coleman, Jaise Cochran, Carsyn Cochran, Leah Coleman and Olyvia Coleman, great-grandchildren Aiden BenSaida, Bexlee Coleman,  his sisters Sheryl Ashley and Vicky (Steve) Mead, his two daughter-in laws, MeGann Daum and Malissa Munfield, his ex-wife, Patricia Hamann and many others friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd Hamann.
