John Clarence Berger, 75, of Newcastle, NE, passed away July 12, 2026 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church in Newcastle on his birthday, Monday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Obert Cemetery, Obert, Nebraska. John’s grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
John was born on August 10, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa to Clarence and Selma (Ringler) Berger. He attended St. Boniface Catholic School and Heelan. He was an active member of the Congregational Church in Newcastle, Ne. John married his best friend, Sandra (Anderson) Brennan on June 10, 2003 in Reno, Nevada. Together they shared a loving life in Newcastle, Nebraska until Sandy’s passing in 2024. John was a father to Adam and Kristine from his first marriage. He also embraced Sandy’s children Tommy, Todd and Breana as his own. John and Sandy also raised their granddaughter, Alexus. John was the youngest of his siblings: Raymond Berger, Maryann Schieve, Joan Rector, Elaine Harms, Betty Berger, Helen Schmidt and Joyce Anderson.
John is survived by his children: Adam (Tierney) Berger, Kristine (Jim) Pettit, Tommy (Jill) Brennan, Todd (Tina) Brennan and Breana Marlett. His grandchildren are: Tarik Berger, Breccen Berger, Jessica Brennan, Thomas Brennan, Alison (Dalton) Tremayne, Austin Brennan, Ava Brennan, Alexus Hans, James Marlett, Penelope Leonard, Andrew (Felecity) Pettit and Mikayla (Richard) Fussel. His great grandchildren are: Nova Tremayne, Lily and Penelope Pettit, Remington, Kolton and Charlotte Fussel. He also treasured the time he spent with his brothers-in-law, Andrew (Roz) and Randall (Gloria) Anderson.
