John Kenneth Barkley, 93, of Sioux City, IA, passed away surrounded by his family on October 23, 2023.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with Father David Hemann officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, October 27 from 5-7 pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A Vigil Service will be held at 7pm.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 447.

John was born on July 26, 1930, in Sioux City, IA to Franklin and Rose (Gruber) Barkley. He was a member of Holy Cross/ St. Michael Parish and the Hinton Legion. He served with the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. He married Sally Jebsen on November 10, 1956, in Bakersfield, CA and to this union seven children were born. They raised their family in Sioux City, Iowa. He was self-employed with Barkley Construction, always liked to tell people he was a "ditch digger". He loved John Deere tractors and loved being a member of the Pioneer Club. He volunteered often at church especially at the fish dinners. Mornings with the coffee shop buddies was a highlight of his day!

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Michael (Mary) Barkley and Melinda Barkley (Randy Ryan) of Sioux City, IA; Michelle "Shelly" (Kirk) Bohlke of Hinton, IA; Maurice "Bomber" (Diane) Barkley of Overland Park, KS; Marshall (Ronda) Barkley, Monica (Scott) Sallinger, and Marcia "Dody" (Rob) McMahon of Roscoe, IL; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally; his parents; his brother Jim Barkley and his sister Mary Barkley.
