Joel A. Horstman, 77 of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 7, 2018 at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, June 12th at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Visitation is Monday 6-8 pm with a 7 pm Vigil Service at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Joel has donated his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy for education and research.
Joel Allen Horstman was born November 22, 1940 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Joseph and Marie (Fergen) Horstman. He was a 1964 University of Iowa graduate, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
On July 11, 1964 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Flemming in Syosset, New York.
Joel worked with GMAC as a credit supervisor until retiring in 1992. He then worked at Condon Motors, Holcolm Freightliner and was still employed at I-State Truck Center.
He was a volunteer with the Taxpayers Research Council through the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Joel is survived by his wife Lorraine; his son Brian Horstman of West Des Moines, Iowa and his daughter, Michelle and her husband Thomas Allen of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Katharine, Nicole, Matthew, Andrea and Daniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elayne Varner.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Church of the Nativity.
