Joann McGuill, 89, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at a local hospital. Services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 with family present from 6-8 and a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family.
Joann was born on August 12, 1927 in Lake Lillian, Minnesota to Anton and Aleda (Florine) Holmberg. She grew up and graduated from high school in Wakefield, NE in 1945. Following high school she attended one year of teaching school at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.
Joann married Ernest Winegardner on September 25, 1948 in Wakefield, NE, to this union, three children were born, Joellen, Richard, and Mark. Ernest passed away in 1983. She married Herbert Meis in 1987, he passed away in 2003. Joann married Joseph McGuill on June 6, 2009 in Sioux City.
Joann was a homemaker, and employed throughout her life. She was a very active member of Morningside Lutheran Church, member of the Red Hat Society, and the Senior Sioux's. She was always very active, adventurous, and on the go. Joann was somewhat of a daredevil, she had been skydiving, loved boating, played the drums when she was younger, and had also coached little league teams. She enjoyed going for coffee with friends, but most importantly, Joann loved her family.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; her children, Joellen (Andy) Adams of Bloomington, IL, Rick (Renee) Winegardner of Muldrow, OK, Mark (Hope) Winegardner of Norwalk, IA; Joe's children, J.J. McGuill of Sioux City, and Julie (Brad) LeFebvere, of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Justin, Josh, Thomas, and Jessica; great granddaughters, Graceyn and Elliette; and one great grandson on the way. Dear to her heart brother-in-law, Charlie (Connie) Winegardner; sister-in-laws, Kathleen Hanson and Margaret Curry; and many nieces and nephews.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ernest; second husband, Herbert; and sisters, Ruth, Marian, and Dorothy.
