JoAnn D. Mays, 87 of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family. Services will be held 11:00am Monday, August 8, 2022, at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

JoAnn was born February 21, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Wilton. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated Central High School in 1953. In 1954 JoAnn married John Connolly in Elk Point, SD, and in this union three children were born, David, Kathleen, and Teresa. They later divorced. During the 1970’s JoAnn worked as a medical secretary at Unity Point St. Luke’s. In 1978 JoAnn married John Mays. She retired in 1979 to take care of her great grandmother Josephine Meuleveld.

JoAnn and John had a cabin by the Missouri River in the early 1980’s, by Minors Bend. They were snowbirds for 21 years going to Alamo, TX with their friends. JoAnn enjoyed going to auctions, Hard Rock, WinnaVegas, and entertaining friends with John at her side.

She is survived by her husband, John Mays of North Sioux City, SD, two sons, David (Barb) Connolly of Hillsboro, OR. David (Anthea) Mays of Sioux Falls, SD, three daughters, Teresa Gill of North Sioux City, SD, Kathleen (Frank) Verdoorn of North Sioux City, SD, Audrey (Derald) Wright of Rose Hill, KS, nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
