Obituary

Joan G. Morris-Shearer, 80 of South Sioux City, NE. passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at local care facility. Private Burial Services will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Joan Gayle Morris- Shearer was born November 1, 1941 in Holbrook, Nebraska to Macie Evangeline Morris (Harding) and Earl Melvin Morris. She had two sisters Lucille Stewart of Hayward, California and Mary Jane Britton of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She was the last of 10 children and the last surviving Morris. Joan married Oliver Eugene Shearer on January 10, 1964 in Rock, Minnesota.

She lived in many places throughout her life and worked at jobs caring for people, which includes; Desert Hot Springs, California, Rock Springs, WY., Spearfish and Yankton, S.D., Wykoff and Faribault , MN.,  Sioux City, IA., Norfolk, NE., South Sioux City, NE., and McCook, NE. Joan was a Nurse Aid since 1977. She loved music and could play any instrument by ear, but enjoyed playing the piano the most.

In 2011 she was diagnosed with dementia and moved to Regency Square in South Sioux City where she lived until she passed. She had a great sense of humor and loved being around and caring for people. She adored her sister Mary Jane and enjoyed animals especially “Earl” the African Gray parrot at Regency, her family, children, dancing and music. She had a huge heart and was always upbeat and ready to help anyone. Joan was loved by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Lee (Mike Davies) of Sioux City, son, Robert (Suzi) Shearer of St Joe, Mo., grandson, Davidson (Megan) Wissing, and their daughter, Mildred of Omaha, Ne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver who passed in 1965 (She never remarried), seven brothers, Earl Morris, Thomas Morris, Dean Morris, Richard Morris, Robert Morris, William Morris and her twin brother who passed in infancy;  two sisters, Mary Jane Britton and Lucille Stewart.
