Jesse Richard Johnson, 79, of Sioux City, Iowa died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his home. A Celebration of Life will run from 4:00 to 6:30 Thursday, January 27, with a 6:30 Masonic Service at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.  Private Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Jess was born September 24, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Jesse S. and Loretta (Sales) Johnson. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. Jess joined and served in both the Navy and the Air Force.

Jess married Barb Peck in 1964. Three children were born to this union, Tami, Marcy and Scott. The couple later divorced. He married Carla Wadsworth Austin in 1985. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Jess worked as an Electrician for over 50 years.

Jess was a Past Master of the Morningside Masonic Lodge, former member of Abu Bekr Shriner Wrecking Crew and Sioux City Consistory. He coached his children’s softball and baseball teams, built his own homes in 1973 and 1982, enjoyed watching and racing cars, and camping and fishing and thoroughly enjoyed watching his great grandchildren at their ball games.

Survivors include his wife, Carla Johnson; three children, Tami (Gary) March, Marcy (Ron) Hummel and Scott (Molly) Johnson; two step-children, Stacey (Justin) Sikorski and Brett (Jenny Barner) Austin; twelve grandchildren, Austin (Ashley) Reynolds, Matthew (Bobbi Jo) Reynolds, Mitch (Kayla) Reynolds, Stephen (Devanne) Sturges, Randi Kay Sturges, Erica Johnson, Jesse M. Johnson, Lindsey (Corey) Behrens, Skyler Baltz, Kayden Baltz, Jaiz Barner, Kai Barner; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace (Frank) Fulton; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild; and two great grandchildren.
