Jesse James Herbst, 20 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 after accident in Kansas. A celebration of his life with lunch will be held December 16, 2023 at 11am at New Perspective INC (NPI) 310 S Martha St Sioux City IA, with a private family burial at a later date. The family is asking for no flowers.  Waterbury Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jesse passed away in June from a car accident in Saline KS after 5 long months he was brought home to his family November 22, 2023. Jesse loved his legos, the history of the Titanic, Cats, Magic the Gathering, Classic Cars, driving around and seeing different places and he taught himself to play the electric guitar. Jesse wanted to be a pilot and fly his own little plane someday and was just discovering the world and all its possibilities Jesse had a heart that was tender, caring and a smile that would light up the room. Once Jesse let you get to know him you never will forget him. Jesse’s favorite color his whole life was pink so the family is asking if you can wear something PINK or The Titanic

Jesse was survived by his parents, Tim and Amy Herbst of Sergeant Bluff, IA, sister, Rae Lenz of Ames, IA, two brothers; Tyler Wilen of Sioux City, IA, and Cody Wilen of Lawton, IA, niece, Nova Wilen of Lawton, IA, grandma, Diane Lenz of Sergeant Bluff, IA, uncle, Kevin Legg of Jefferson, SD., grandparents, Jim and Linda Herbst of Tifton, GA. foster parents, Clyde and Tammy Hoekstra of  Ochienden, foster sister, Casey Hoekstra of Salt Lake City, UT., and foster brother, Tyler Hoekstra of Orlando, FL, biological mother, Shelli Selfridge of Sioux City, IA,  two half-brothers, Daniel Bainbridge and Michael Bainbridge both of Smithland, IA. and many aunts uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by Grandfather Ronald Lenz, Nephew Mason Meins.
