Jerry L. Sturges, 82 of Sioux City, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at a local hospital.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 from 4-8pm with vigil service at 7:00pm at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans.
Jerry LeRoy Sturges was born on April 27, 1935 in Sioux City, the son of Stephen and Daisy (Stockwell) Sturges. Jerry enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War.
On August 2, 1958 Jerry was united in marriage to Helen Gengler in Sioux City. He worked at several packing houses, including Armour, Dress Pork and retiring from John Morrell in 1983.
Jerry enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs, watching westerns, working crossword puzzles and loved to bake Christmas cookies during the Christmas season. Saturday nights were also special when the family played poker. He was a member of a Navy Veteran Group, USS LSM LSMR Association.
Jerry is survived by his 3 sons, Duane (Kenna) Sturges, Steve Sturges and Rick Sturges; 4 daughters, JoAnn Sturges, Julie Sturges, Jeri Lynn Sturges and Janice Sturges; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, John (Daphene) Sturges and his sister, Valerie Hatzenbuhler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents, several brothers and sisters, and daughter in-law, Kellie Sturges.
