Jerry Hansen, 81, of Sioux City, IA, passed away October 28, 2023, at a local nursing home after long battle of Parkinson’s disease.  A Celebration of Life is pending for a later date.  Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City is handling the arrangements.

Jerry was the oldest of 11 children, born on September 25, 1942, in Hinton, Iowa to William and Evelyn Hansen.  He graduated from high school and enlisted into the United States Army.  He married Karen Porsch and the couple divorced in their retirement years. Jerry worked for the Sioux City Police Department in his younger years, and as a steel fabricator, managing Haakinson & Beatty Steel for approximately 40 years.  He loved that industry and knew it well.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing, bowling, classic cars and riding his motorcycle. He was especially proud of his three grandsons, Jesse, Kelsey and Jake Vakulskas.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Tonya (Jeff) Vakulskas, Sioux City, IA; 3 grandsons: Jesse, Kelsey and Jake; and several brothers & sisters.

He is preceded in death by his parents and several brothers.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Continental Springs and St. Croix Hospice for all of the wonderful care given to Jerry. They are truly earth’s angels.
