Obituary

Jerry (Chip) R. Groves, 57, of Sioux City, IA peacefully entered into heaven to be reunited with his father on June 13, 2022.
Chip was born to Gerald and Lucretia (Kesy) Groves on September 25th, 1964. He grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and was very proud to be from the Westside of Sioux City. While growing up, Chip attended Riverside Jr. and graduated from West High School. While at West High School, Chip had many friends and was part of the track team. Chip met Brenda Frisbie while in track, who he later married in November of 1986.
During his marriage to Brenda, he worked at Gateway 2000 and CableOne. Chip was a devoted New England Patriots fan. Chip would want everyone who knew him to know that he was also a Patriots fan in the era before Tom Brady, which is why he tattooed the throwback Patriots logo on his arm.
Chip enjoyed playing poker with his friends on weekends and celebrating “Saturday in the Yard” during warmer months. This would involve a gathering of close friends & family, a case of beer, a Bluetooth speaker and endless laughs. The night would often end with a fire in the infamous Chiminea. Chip was happiest when everyone was getting along and laughing with each other. He will most certainly be remembered for being able to make you smile in any negative situation.
With Brenda, Chip gave life to two children, Jerrica and Tucker. Chip took most pride in being a family man. He was a very fun- loving, affectionate and attentive father. Chip later became a grandfather to Colette (Coco) in 2012 and Oxley in 2018. Chip would do anything to make his grandchildren laugh or smile and would find many ways to let them know they were loved and adored. Chip would not accept gifts from his children. His only wish on holidays and birthdays was to go have breakfast with his family. There was nothing that made Chip happier than to have a meal & conversation with those he loved first thing in the morning.
Chip believed in doing things right the first time, being honest, forgiving and staying humble. Most importantly, Chip wanted everyone around him to be happy and comfortable. He would often dismiss his own feelings and pain so that others would feel good.
Chip is survived by his his daughter Jerrica Vollmer and her children, Colette and Oxley; his son, Tucker Groves; his mother, Lucretia (Kesy) Groves-Jolin; sister, Monette and husband John Harbeck; niece, Brianne and husband Jeff Felts and their children Brody and Emersyn; Aunt, Carole Veatch; Aunt, Kathy and husband Joel Plucker; Aunt Lori Couture; Uncle, Butch Couture and his husband Tom Dimercurio and Chip’s life long friends, Mark and Kristie Heger.
Chip is also survived by his former wife, Brenda Groves and her siblings, Tom, Terry and Tim, who he always referred to as his own brothers. To add to Brenda’s family, Chip is also survived by father-in-law, Alan Frisbie and his long time partner Jeanie Craig.
In loving memory of Chip, we would like to have a celebration of life with food and conversation. If you’d like to share your memories or meet with friends and family to celebrate Chip, we invite you Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue on Thursday, June 16th from 6-8pm.
