Jeanie Larson, 74, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and two children.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sloan Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Jeanie was born LaYwauna Jean Hatwan on March 31, 1951, in Pickstown, South Dakota, Jeanie was the daughter of Roland and Ann (Pentzer) Hatwan. She graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1969 and later attended the Nettleton School of Business in Sioux Falls. On November 20, 1971, she married the love of her life, Randall “Randy” Larson.
Jeanie dedicated 45 years of service to the Pathology Lab at Mercy One, retiring in 2009. Her dedication to healthcare brought her back from retirement, and she continued to serve during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A true South Dakota girl at heart, Jeanie had a deep love for the outdoors. She and Randy cherished their annual trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and she found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren. Her grandsons never failed to bring a smile to her face, and she treasured every moment with them.Jeanie is survived by her beloved husband Randy; her son Lance and daughter Shannon (Josh); grandsons Jakeb, Carter and Bryar; her brother Dale (Sue) Hatwan; and her sisters Lori (Danny) Slaba, Karen Olsen, and Kathy Svatos.She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Pat Hatwan.
Jeanie will be remembered for her kind heart, strong work ethic, and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.
